German Poet
Wilhelm Müller was a German poet and the father of Hans Müller. His works are renowned for their lyrical and epic qualities that evoke the beauty and lore of the Rhine River.
Singer of the Rhine
Müller is particularly known as the "Singer of the Rhine." He dedicated his book of songs, "Mein Herz ist am Rheine" (4th edition, 1871), to the river. Other notable works that capture the Rhine's essence include his collection of tales and ballads, "Lorelei" (3rd edition, 1857), the fairy tale "Prinz Minnewin," and the verse narrative "Die Maikonigin."
Tales of the Rhine
Müller drew inspiration from life along the Rhine for his prose works as well. These include "Erzählungen eines rheinischen Chronisten," "Vier Burgen," "Zum stillen Vergnügen," "Sommertage im Siebengebirge," and "Von drei Mühlen."
Artistic Balance
Müller's talent shines in works that blend epic and lyrical elements. His imagination interweaves with realism to create aesthetically pleasing pieces. In "Rheinfahrt," he celebrates the landscapes, people, and legends of the Rhine region.
Mixed Genres
Müller expanded his literary repertoire beyond poetry, writing dramatic works as well. His comedy "Sie hat ihr Herz entdeckt" (1872) gained popularity. He also published selected works under the title "Dichtungen eines rheinischen Poeten" (1871-1876).
