Yun Sung-bin: South Korean Bobsleigh Pioneer
Yun Sung-bin is a South Korean bobsleigh pilot who made history as the first Korean to win a World Cup title.
Debut and Early Career
Yun began his international career as a skeleton athlete in 2007. Later that year, he switched to bobsleigh and won the European Cup B race in Winterberg. He made his World Cup debut in 2010 as a push athlete in a four-man sled.
Transition to Pilot
In 2011, Yun decided to become a pilot. He made two World Cup starts that season, finishing in the top 20. He also competed in the North American Cup, where he achieved his first podiums as a pilot.
Olympic Debut
In 2014, Yun made his Olympic debut in Sochi. He competed in both the two-man and four-man events, finishing 18th and 20th respectively.
Breakthrough Season
The 2015/16 season proved to be a turning point for Yun. He won his first World Cup race in Whistler and went on to win the two-man World Cup title, becoming the first Korean to achieve such a feat.
World Championships and Legacy
Yun's success at the World Cup level did not translate into medals at the World Championships. However, he remains an icon in South Korea, inspiring future bobsleigh athletes.
