Biography of Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman, a superheroine and a character from DC Comics, is considered one of the main icons of the feminist movement. Equipped with the Lasso of Truth, indestructible bracelets, and extraordinary physical abilities, this Amazonian warrior stands on the same level as famous characters such as Batman and Superman.
Wonder Woman was first introduced to the world in "All Star Comics #8". In the comic's storyline, the plane of Steve Trevor crashed over the ocean and he happened to land on a mysterious island inhabited by Amazons. Over time, Steve develops a romance with one of the Amazons, Diana, and it is Diana who is entrusted with the task of venturing into the "world of men" alongside Steve.
Upon arriving in the United States, Diana meets her namesake and doppelgänger, nurse Diana Prince. The nurse needed a large sum of money to travel to South America to be with her fiancé, and Wonder Woman provides her with the necessary funds in exchange for using her identity and documents. As Diana Prince, the Amazon warrior works as a nurse, while as Wonder Woman, she fights various villains, often representing Nazi forces.
During the "Silver Age of Comics," Wonder Woman's character underwent a revision. She became less connected to World War II and more associated with classical Greek myths. Her extraordinary abilities were now explained as divine blessings. However, she later had to give up her powers and the ability to move to a parallel dimension. She had to rely on intense training to regain her lost abilities, but even without the divine gift, Diana Prince proved to be a formidable opponent for various villains.
In the "Bronze Age of Comics," Wonder Woman regained her powers and her iconic costume. However, her restored status didn't last long due to the events of the "Crisis on Infinite Earths," which led to a radical reimagining of the DC universe. In the new storyline, Wonder Woman became the official ambassador and representative of Themyscira, the island she came from, in the world of men. Her mission primarily focused on promoting peace.
Wonder Woman's updated biography incorporated various elements from classical Greek myths. Additionally, her romantic relationship with Steve Trevor was removed from the revised universe. According to the updated origin story, Queen Hippolyta created Diana from clay, giving her life and divine powers.
Throughout her heroic journey, Wonder Woman faced numerous challenges. In the "War of the Gods" series, the Amazons were accused of serious crimes, including theft and murder. Some Amazons were arrested, Queen Hippolyta disappeared, and Steve Trevor received orders to attack Themyscira. It was revealed that the witch Circe was responsible for these events, and at one point, she even turned Wonder Woman back into clay. However, with the help of the superheroine Donna Troy, Wonder Woman managed to defeat Circe.
Wonder Woman played a pivotal role in another major event in the DC universe, the "Infinite Crisis." In part, the crisis was triggered by Wonder Woman killing the villain Maxwell Lord, who had gained control over Superman. Unlike Superman and Batman, Wonder Woman was known for her pragmatism and the willingness to kill when necessary. Her actions caused a public outcry, and she was accused of cold-blooded murder, which strained her relationship with Batman and Superman.
After the conclusion of the "Infinite Crisis," Wonder Woman temporarily gave up her heroic alter ego and focused on her work with the Department of Metahuman Affairs. During this time, Donna Troy took on the role of Wonder Woman. However, Diana had to return to heroism to save Donna from Hercules and Circe.
In the "New 52" storyline, Wonder Woman's origin was revised again. She was no longer a magically formed clay figure but a demigoddess, the daughter of Queen Hippolyta and Zeus. One of the notable events in this new universe was the romantic relationship between Wonder Woman and her fellow Justice League member, Superman.
It is worth mentioning that Wonder Woman will soon make her appearance on the big screen alongside Superman in the upcoming film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." The role of Wonder Woman will be portrayed by Israeli actress Gal Gadot in the project directed by Zack Snyder.
