Early Life and Education

Xavier Samuel was born in Hamilton, Victoria, Australia on December 10, 1983. He spent his childhood in Adelaide, South Australia, and graduated from Rostrevor College in 2001. While attending college, Samuel simultaneously studied drama under renowned Australian theater educator Amanda Portus at Christian Brothers College.

Theatre and Television Debut

Samuel made his stage debut in 2001, playing Demetrius in a student production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." The same year, he appeared as Belvile in the CBC adaptation of Aphra Behn's "The Rover." In 2003, he made his Australian television debut in the series "McLeod's Daughters."

University Studies and Hamlet

In 2005, Samuel studied at the Flinders University Drama Centre under renowned acting teacher Professor Julie Holledge. He played the title role in a graduation production of "Hamlet."

Film Breakthrough: The Twilight Saga

Samuel's breakthrough role came in 2009 with the release of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," where he was cast as the vampire Riley Biers. His portrayal of a young vampire manipulated by the vengeful Victoria propelled him to stardom. The role also earned him critical acclaim and a nomination for the MTV Movie Award for Best Breakout Performance.

Other Notable Roles

Beyond the "Twilight" franchise, Samuel has appeared in a number of notable films, including the thriller "The Loved Ones" (2009) and the action-drama "Fury" (2014). In 2017, he played the lead role in the horror-thriller "The Osiris Child."
