Early Life and Career

Yann Sommer, a Swiss goalkeeper, was born on December 17, 1988, in Herzogenbuchsee, Switzerland. His football journey began with local clubs Herliberg and Concordia Basel, before he joined FC Basel as a youth player in 2003.

Professional Debut and Loan Spells

In 2005, Sommer signed his first professional contract with Basel. Initially, he played for the club's youth team, but his contract was extended in 2007 until 2011. That year, he was loaned to FC Vaduz, where he became the starting goalkeeper and gained valuable experience. Sommer helped Vaduz earn promotion to the Swiss Super League, and his loan was extended. He made his Swiss Super League debut with Vaduz in 2008 and returned to Basel in 2009 when starting goalkeeper Franco Costanzo suffered an injury.

Basel and National Team Recognition

After several loan spells, Sommer established himself as Basel's number one goalkeeper in 2011. He played a crucial role in the team's success, helping them win five consecutive Swiss Super League titles.
