Antonio Conte - Italian Football Player and Coach
Antonio Conte is an Italian football player and coach who has previously played as a midfielder. He is currently the head coach of London's Chelsea Football Club.
Football Career
Conte began his football career at his hometown club, Lecce, but did not achieve any significant success with them. In 1992, he received an invitation from Turin's Juventus and became an integral part of the team for the next twelve years. He was even appointed as the team's captain for a period of time before relinquishing the armband to Alessandro Del Piero in 1998 due to a "revolution" led by Marcello Lippi. However, Conte continued to be a spiritual leader for the team, especially during difficult times. In 1999, when Del Piero was injured, Conte led the Juventus team to victory, scoring the winning goal against Olympiacos in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, allowing Juventus to advance to the semi-finals against Manchester United.
A Solution to All Problems
"Antonio Conte is the solution to all problems. When the situation becomes threatening, when hope is fading away, he takes matters into his own hands." - Carlo Ancelotti
Biography
On October 9, 1996, Antonio Conte's career was almost interrupted when he suffered a serious injury during a World Cup qualifying match against Georgia. However, he found the strength to return to the field and, despite missing the World Cup, he played again for the Italian national team. He suffered a relapse of the injury in July 1998, but in the summer of 2000, Conte won silver at Euro 2000. That same year, he announced his departure from the Italian national team.
Conte ended his playing career at Juventus in 2004. During his twelve years with the club, he won almost all the trophies in modern club football.
Currently, Antonio Conte works as a coach. Under his leadership, Bari won the Serie B championship in the 2008-2009 season. However, due to disagreements with the club's management regarding transfer policies, Conte chose not to extend his contract and left the club. On September 21, 2009, he became the head coach of Atalanta, but was fired from his position on January 7, 2010.
