Early Life and Military Career
Born into a farming family in Guangdong province, Ye Ting graduated from the military academy in Baoding. In 1919, he joined the Kuomintang and became a battalion commander in the National Revolutionary Army (NRA).
Ascendance to Command
Ye Ting's military talent caught the attention of superiors. By 1925, he commanded the elite 32nd Regiment, known as the "Iron Regiment." During the Northern Expedition, Ye Ting's regiment played a pivotal role in decisive battles.
Birth of the Red Army
After the Communist Party of China (CPC) gained influence within the NRA, Ye Ting's regiment became a nucleus of the future Red Army. In 1927, Ye Ting led the Nanchang Uprising against the Kuomintang.
Guangdong Uprising and Exile
During the Guangzhou Uprising, Ye Ting served as the commander-in-chief. After the uprising failed, he fled abroad.
Return to China and the Anti-Japanese War
In 1937, when China faced Japanese aggression, Ye Ting returned and commanded the New 4th Army. He established liberated zones in central China behind enemy lines.
Imprisonment and Release
In 1941, Ye Ting was captured when Guomindang forces attacked the New 4th Army. He remained imprisoned until 1946, when he was released at the behest of the CPC.
Tragic End and Legacy
On April 8, 1946, Ye Ting perished in a plane crash junto with Bo Gu and Deng Fa. He left behind a legacy as a brilliant military strategist and a symbol of the indomitable spirit of the Red Army.
Personal Life
Ye Ting had nine children. One of his granddaughters, Ye Xiaoyan, married Li Xiaoyun, the son of Premier Li Peng.

In his verses, Ye Ting expressed his passion for revolution and his belief in its ultimate triumph:
"I eagerly await the day when subterranean flames erupt,
When my ashes rise as a living shadow,And the banner blazes crimson with pride.
New life shall surge with mighty force,
And our tale shall be recounted to the young,
And amidst the fire and blood,
I shall forever remain alive!"
