Dutch Racing Career
Foraying into motorsports, Ho-Pin Tung began his racing journey in 2002 with Formula König. Racing in the Germany-based series, he finished the season in 11th place.

Formula Renault Dominance
Tung's focus shifted to various Formula Renault championships from 2003 to 2005. Competing in British, Dutch, European, and American series, he achieved notable success in the British Formula Renault Winter Series (2003) and the Dutch Formula Renault (2004), where he emerged as the bronze medalist.

Brief Stint in World Series Renault
In 2007, Tung joined Fortec for a short stint in the World Series Renault, replacing injured Richard Philippe in four races. He earned a fifth-place finish and a fourth-place finish in the second weekend.
British and European Formula 3
Following two races in British Formula 3 in 2005, Tung focused on the series in 2006 and 2007. He finished fourth in the 2006 championship and participated in four races of the Formula 3 Euro Series for Fortec. In 2007, he competed in the full Euro Series season with Manor Motorsport, securing sixth place overall. He also raced in select Formula 3 events, including the Macau Grand Prix and the Masters of Formula 3 for Trust Team Arden alongside Sébastien Buemi.
Formula 3 Asia and GP2
Tung initially planned to skip Formula 3 Asia, but replaced Adam Langley-Khan when the Pakistani driver left the team to focus on A1 Grand Prix and education. He competed in Formula 3 Asia and Formula 3 Masters for Trust Team Arden before moving to Arden International in GP2 in 2008. After ten races, he was replaced by Luca Filippi, who himself lost his seat at ART Grand Prix to Sakon Yamamoto. Tung then joined Ocean Racing Technology (renamed) for the remainder of the 2008-09 GP2 Asia season but was replaced by Karun Chandhok in the final round. He finished 19th in the championship.
Superleague Formula
Losing his GP2 seat, Tung joined the new Superleague Formula series as the driver for PSV Eindhoven. He finished second in the 2008 season and raced for Anderlecht in 2009.
