Early Life and Education

Born on October 29, 1976, in the outskirts of the southern city of Yeosu, South Korea, Yeom Hye-ran grew up in a farming family. Although she aspired to become a Korean language teacher, she enrolled in the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Seoul Women's University. It was during her university years that she discovered her passion for theater and joined the university's theater troupe.

Theater and Film Debut

Yeom Hye-ran made her stage debut in 2000 in the play "Teacher Choi." Three years later, she made her film debut in the 2003 crime thriller "Memories of Murder," directed by Bong Joon-ho. Despite the film's critical acclaim, Yeom's career remained largely confined to supporting roles until her breakout role in the 2016 drama "Dear My Friends."

Theatrical Success

In the years between her film debut and her breakthrough role, Yeom Hye-ran established herself as a notable theater actress.
