Early Life and Education
Yuriy Vitaliyovych Vitrenko was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, on September 17, 1976. He graduated with honors from the Kyiv National Economic University, earning undergraduate and master's degrees in International Economics and International Business Management, respectively. Vitrenko pursued doctoral studies at the Institute of International Relations in International Economic Relations. He also completed an MBA program at the INSEAD international business school in France and Singapore.
Career in Finance
Early Experience and ConsultingVitrenko began his financial career at age 14 as an assistant accountant at UkrSibbank. From 1998-2002, he held various roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers' management consulting division, specializing in financial management, finance, and information systems for financial management.
NAFtOGaz Ukrainy
In 2002, Vitrenko joined NAFtOGaz Ukrainy as an assistant to the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board. Over the years, he held positions as Head of the Corporate Finance Department, Chief Advisor to the Chairman of the Board, and Director of Business Development. He played a key role in securing international loans and restructuring international banking loans and Eurobonds worth $1.6 billion.
International Banking and Private Equity
From 2005-2006, Vitrenko worked in the investment banking unit of Merrill Lynch in London. He was involved in several mergers and acquisitions deals in Ukraine, Russia, and Eastern Europe. In 2008-2010, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the private equity fund Amstar Europe.
Return to NAFtOGaz Ukrainy and Business Ventures
After his tenure at Amstar, Vitrenko returned to NAFtOGaz Ukrainy in 2014 as Director of Business Development. Concurrently, he founded the investment company AYA Capital in 2010. AYA Securities, co-owned by Vitrenko, gained attention for its potential role in restructuring the debts of the bankrupt state-owned enterprise Coal of Ukraine in 2013.
