Yuriy Lvovich Zabolotsky
Yuriy Lvovich Zabolotsky was a Ukrainian footballer and coach. Born in Odessa on August 24, 1933, he began his playing career in the youth team of Spartak Odessa in 1951.
Club Career
Zabolotsky went on to play for several clubs, including Chornomorets Odessa, Dynamo Kyiv, and Sudostroitel Nikolaev. He spent a total of 78 matches in the Top League of the USSR Championships. Notably, he was part of Chornomorets Odessa's championship victory in the Ukrainian SSR in 1961.
International Career
Zabolotsky was also a member of the Ukrainian SSR national team. His exceptional skills earned him recognition as the best right-back in the history of Chornomorets Odessa.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Zabolotsky became a successful coach. He received the title of Honored Coach of the Ukrainian SSR and was awarded the title of Master of Sports of the USSR.
Legacy
In 1999, Zabolotsky was honored with the recognition of being the best right-back in the 40-year history of Chornomorets Odessa. His influence extended beyond his playing days, as he was the uncle of renowned Odessa footballers, the Nikiforov brothers Yuri and Alexander.
Memorial Recognition
To commemorate his legacy, amateur teams in Odessa annually compete for the "Yuriy Lvovich Zabolotsky Memorial Prize."
