Yuri Avsharov: A Renowned Actor, Director, and Educator
Early Life and EducationYuri Mikhailovich Avsharov was born on December 22, 1937, in Baku, Azerbaijan, to an Armenian family. In 1961, he graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute in Moscow, specializing in Dramatic Theatre and Cinema. His mentor during his studies was the renowned actor and teacher Vladimir Etush.
Career in Theatre
Avsharov began his acting career in Kamchatka, where he was assigned after graduating from the institute. In 1962, he joined the Moscow Satire Theatre, where he remained a member until 2010. Avsharov became a respected and beloved figure in the theatre, known for his exceptional talent and dedication to the craft.
Pedagogical Work
In addition to his acting career, Avsharov also pursued a distinguished pedagogical career. From 1967, he taught at the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute, where he eventually became a professor. In 1998, he became the Head of the Department of Acting at the G.R. Derzhavin International Slavic Institute.
Avsharov was recognized for his exceptional teaching skills. He conducted master classes at international seminars on the Stanislavski system and the work of Michael Chekhov. These seminars took place in England, Latvia, Germany, and Russia.
Legacy and Recognition
Yuri Avsharov passed away on January 29, 2010, in Moscow. He was buried in the columbarium of the Vagankovo Cemetery. In 2012, a book entitled "Yuri Avsharov: Actor. Director. Teacher" was published by his students at the Shchukin Institute.
Avsharov's contributions to the theatre and the performing arts were recognized with numerous accolades. In 1995, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation. He also received several other awards and honors throughout his career.
Personal Life
Yuri Avsharov was married to Natalia Ivanovna Nechaeva. They had a daughter named Yulia Avsharova (born 1974), who also became an accomplished actress, earning the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
