Taniguchi meticulously memorized and recorded the name, credit card number, expiration date, and the three-digit security code from the back of the cards. He then exploited this information to make fraudulent online purchases. According to Tokyo-based news website SoraNews24, Taniguchi confessed to using the stolen data to buy various items, which he later sold at a pawnshop to support his living expenses.
The Downfall of a Criminal Genius
Taniguchi's downfall came when he escalated from small purchases to larger ones, including two shoulder bags ordered and delivered to his home address, totaling 270,000 yen (approximately $1,500). His notebook was linked to numerous other cases of stolen money, leading to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
