Early Life and Education

Zarifa Aliyeva was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, into a distinguished family. Her father, Aziz Aliyev, was the People's Commissar of Health of the Azerbaijan SSR and later the First Secretary of the Dagestan Regional Committee of the Communist Party.

Medical Career

Aliyeva graduated from the Azerbaijan State Medical University and specialized in ophthalmology. She worked at the Azerbaijan State Institute for Advanced Medical Studies throughout her career.

Scientific Contributions

Aliyeva was a prolific scholar and author, publishing fourteen monographs and hundreds of scientific articles. Her research focused on new methods of treating eye diseases, and she developed several innovative techniques.

Family Life

In 1948, Aliyeva married Heydar Aliyev, who later became the third President of Azerbaijan. Together, they had two children: Sevil and Ilham.

Political Influence

Aliyeva's position as the wife of the President gave her significant influence in Azerbaijani politics. She was known for her intelligence and diplomatic skills, playing an important role in her husband's career.

Moscow and Her Death

In 1982, Aliyeva moved to Moscow with her family. She passed away from cancer in 1985 and was initially buried in Moscow. In 1994, her body was reinterred in the Alley of Honor in Baku.
