Early Life and Education
Born on April 28, 1929, in Yerevan, Zaripha Budagova pursued her education with vigor. She completed her pedagogical training at the Yerevan Pedagogical Institute, majoring in Azerbaijani language and literature. In 1948, she moved to Baku and continued her studies at the Azerbaijani State Pedagogical Institute, graduating with honors.
Academic Achievements
Driven by her passion for linguistics, Budagova enrolled in the graduate program of the Institute of Linguistics at the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Moscow in 1949. She earned her Candidate of Sciences degree in 1953 and went on to defend her doctoral dissertation in 1963, becoming the first female in Azerbaijan to attain a doctorate in philology.
Career and Contributions
Budagova's contributions to linguistics were remarkable. She held positions at the Institute of Language and Literature and the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi at the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. In 1980, she was elected a corresponding member of the Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences.
Authorship and Editorial Work
Zaripha Budagova's most significant work, a three-volume treatise titled "Grammar of the Azerbaijani Language," stands as a testament to her expertise. She also edited numerous collective monographs, including "Phrases in Modern Azerbaijani," "Self-Study Guide to Azerbaijani," "Stylistics of Azerbaijani Literary Language," and "Semaciology of Azerbaijani Language."
Legacy and Impact
Budagova's untimely demise on November 7, 1989, left a significant void in the field of Azerbaijani linguistics. Her pioneering research and exceptional contributions continue to inspire and guide scholars today.
