Zdeněk Pecka

Early Life and Early Career

Zdeněk Pecka was born on February 6, 1954, in Litoměřice, Czechoslovakia. He first made a name for himself in international rowing as a junior in 1972, finishing sixth in single sculls at the World Junior Championships.

International Success

In 1974, Pecka won bronze in the quadruple sculls at the World Championships in Lucerne. He followed that up with silver in the same event at the World Championships in Nottingham in 1975.

Olympic Glory

Pecka's achievements earned him a spot on the Czechoslovakian team for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. He took bronze in the quadruple sculls with teammates Vladek Lacina, Václav Vochoska, and Jaroslav Hellebrand.

Continued Dominance

Pecka continued to excel, winning silver in the quadruple sculls at the World Championships in Amsterdam in 1977. He also added a silver medal in the double sculls at the World Championships in Bled in 1979.

Moscow Olympics and Beyond

Together with Vochoska, Pecka won bronze in the double sculls at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. He remained competitive in the years following the Olympics, notably taking bronze in the double sculls at the World Championships in Lucerne in 1982.

Coaching Career

After retiring from rowing, Pecka became a successful coach. From 1989 to 2004, he trained Olympic silver medalist Václav Chalupa.

Personal Life

Pecka is married to renowned Czechoslovakian cross-country skier Květa Jeriová.
