Early Life and Education

Zef Kolombi was born in Sarajevo in 1898 to an Albanian father and a Slovenian mother. After his father's passing in 1910, the family moved to Shkodër, Albania, where Kolombi completed his primary education.

Artistic Pursuits

Following unsuccessful financial ventures in Italy and Sarajevo, Kolombi returned to Shkodër and decided to pursue a career in art. In 1929, he relocated to Italy again to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.

Artistic Career

After graduating in 1933, Kolombi returned to Albania and became a drawing teacher in Elbasan. In 1940, he moved to Shkodër, where he remained until his death. Kolombi primarily focused on portraiture and landscape painting, but his most renowned works were his still lifes, characterized by their harmonious use of lighting.

Legacy

Zef Kolombi played a pivotal role in the development of the Shkodra School of Painting, a leading artistic movement in Albania during the first half of the 20th century. His exceptional talent and artistic contributions have made him a highly respected figure in Albanian art history.

Personal Life and Passing

Kolombi married in 1936 and had one son. He passed away in 1949 at the age of 51 due to complications from asthma and tuberculosis.
