Early Life and Career as a PlayerBorn on March 9, 1960, in Cacak, Serbia (then part of Yugoslavia), Zelimir Obradovic began his basketball career as a player for Borac Cacak in 1978. He played with the team for six years, establishing himself as a skilled point guard.
In 1984, Obradovic joined Partizan Belgrade, where he won the Yugoslav League championship in 1987 and the Korać Cup in 1989. He was also a member of the Yugoslav national team, winning a silver medal at the 1988 Olympics and a gold medal at the 1990 World Championship.
Coaching Career: A Legacy of Titles
Obradovic's coaching career began unexpectedly in 1991 when he was still an active player at Partizan. Despite being called up to the national team, he was persuaded to take over as head coach of his club.
Over the next three decades, Obradovic led various teams to an astonishing 64 club titles, including a record nine EuroLeague championships with five different clubs (Partizan, Joventut, Real Madrid, Panathinaikos, and Fenerbahçe). He also achieved 18 EuroLeague Final Four appearances and two Saporta Cup victories.
International Success
In addition to his club accomplishments, Obradovic coached the Yugoslav national team from 1996 to 2000, guiding them to a gold medal at the 1998 World Championship and a European Championship title in 1997. He later coached the Serbia and Montenegro national team from 2004 to 2005.
