Marcello D'Angelo Castanheira, affectionately known as Zetinho, is a renowned former Brazilian goalkeeper who achieved exceptional success on and off the pitch.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Born on July 14, 1964, in São Paulo, Brazil, Zetinho grew up in a family with a strong tradition in sports. He initially pursued volleyball but later followed in the footsteps of his brother and turned to football. After honing his skills at local clubs, he joined Guarani in 1980, where he showcased his exceptional goalkeeping abilities.
Club Career and Triumphs
Zetinho's career reached its peak during his tenure with São Paulo FC, where he spent the majority of his playing days from 1990 to 1996. He played in 153 matches for the "Tricolor Paulista" and became one of the most successful goalkeepers in their history. During his time with São Paulo, he captured seven major titles, including the Copa Libertadores (1992, 1993), Intercontinental Cup (1992, 1993), and Campeonato Brasileiro (1991).
After leaving São Paulo, Zetinho had a brief stint with Santos FC, where he won the Rio-São Paulo Tournament in 1997.
International Accolades
Zetinho had the honor of representing Brazil on the international stage. He was a member of the 1994 FIFA World Cup-winning squad, although he did not feature in any games.
Post-Playing Career
Following his retirement from professional football, Zetinho transitioned into coaching and managed several Brazilian clubs. His most recent coaching position was with Paraná Clube.
In addition to his involvement in football, Zetinho has worked as a commentator for radio and television, including RedeTV!'s Bola no Rede program. In 2008, he founded the Fechando o Gol goalkeeper academy at the Banespa club.
