Reign of Zipoetes, King of Bithynia
Early Life and Succession:Zipoetes, the illustrious king of Bithynia, was born the son of Bas, the region's first independent ruler. Upon his father's passing in 326 BC, Zipoetes ascended to the throne, commencing a remarkable reign spanning forty-eight years.
Military Engagements:
Zipoetes' reign was marked by fierce battles with Lysimachus and Antiochus I Soter. In 315 BC, he waged war against the Greek colonies of Astacus and Chalcedon but was thwarted by the arrival of reinforcements sent by Antigonus One-Eye. After vanquishing Lysimachus, Zipoetes founded a city near Mount Lipera, bestowing upon it his own name: Zipoetium.
Legacy and Succession:
Zipoetes ruled for an extraordinary 76 years, leaving behind an enduring legacy. He was renowned for establishing the title of king in Bithynia and securing the region's independence. At the time of his passing, he was survived by four sons, the eldest of whom, Nicomedes, inherited the throne.
