Ziya Bazhayev: A Visionary Oil Tycoon

Ziya (Ziyoudi) Yusupovich Bazhayev was a Russian businessman and the founder of the "Alliance" company. Born on July 11, 1960, in the village of Achkhoy-Martan in the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, Bazhayev's life was marked by both success and tragedy.

Early Life and Education

Bazhayev graduated from Krasnodar Polytechnic Institute in 1981 with a degree in engineering and technology. He subsequently earned a Candidate of Technical Sciences degree.

Business Career

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Bazhayev held positions at biochemical enterprises in Krasnodar and Grozny. In 1992, he became president of the Swiss-registered oil trading company, LIA OIL.

In 1995, Bazhayev was appointed head of the state-owned enterprise "Southern Oil Company" (YUNKO), which operated oil production in Chechnya. However, he was dismissed from this post the following year due to pressure from the government of Dzhokhar Dudayev.

From 1996 to 1998, Bazhayev worked in the management of the oil company "Sidanko," serving as its president from April 1997 to March 1998. After leaving "Sidanko," he founded his own oil company, "Alliance."

Alliance and the National Oil Company Project

Bazhayev's "Alliance" company played a significant role in Russia's oil industry. In 1999 and 2000, he developed an anti-crisis program for the state-owned "Rosneft" and a project to create a national oil company, which gained support during the premiership of Yevgeny Primakov.

Tragic Loss

On March 9, 2000, Bazhayev died in a plane crash at Sheremetyevo International Airport. He was on board a private jet with journalist Artyom Borovik when it crashed shortly after takeoff.

Legacy

After Bazhayev's untimely death, his younger brother, Musa, took over as head of the "Alliance" company. In subsequent years, the company's assets were restructured and integrated with Swedish company West Siberian Resources.

Bazhayev was known for his philanthropy and charitable work. He was a married father of three children. His contributions to the Russian oil industry and his tragic loss left a lasting mark on his business and the wider community.
