Early Life and Education

Zoé Valdésis a renowned Cuban writer. Born in Havana, she studied at the Havana Pedagogical Institute but left without completing the course. She also spent a year at the Faculty of Philology at the University of Havana before abandoning her studies.

UNESCO and Cinematic Career

In 1983, Valdés joined UNESCO in Paris, where she worked until 1988. Upon her return to Cuba, she embarked on a career in film, writing screenplays. From 1990 to 1995, she served as deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine "Cuban Cinema."

Departure from Cuba

In 1995, Valdés left her post and settled in Paris, where she has resided ever since. Currently, she lives in Paris with her third husband and daughter, holding both Spanish and French citizenship.

Literary Career

Valdés began her writing career as a poet,with her first two books, "The Echo of Life" and "I Will Give Everything for the Shadow," published in 1986. She has penned over 15 novels, including the critically acclaimed "Everyday Things" (1995),which earned her the prestigious LiBeraturpreis in Frankfurt. In addition, she has authored essays and children's books.
