Zoey Francis Thompson Deutch was born on November 10, 1994, in Los Angeles, California, USA. She comes from a family of actors, with her mother being actress Lea Thompson and her father being filmmaker Howard Deutch. Zoey has an older sister named Madelyn, who is also an actress.

She attended Oakwood Elementary School, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, and the Young Actors Space. Some of the famous actors who also attended the Young Actors Space include Leonardo DiCaprio, Jake Gyllenhaal, Emma Stone, Hilary Swank, and Elijah Wood. Zoey specialized in theater and visual arts at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.

Zoey made her debut in 2010, playing Maya Bennett in the Disney Channel series "The Suite Life on Deck."
