Biography of Zoltan Halmay

Zoltan Halmay, a Hungarian swimmer, was a two-time champion and five-time medalist in the Summer Olympic Games.

Olympic Games in Paris, 1900

In the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris, Halmay competed in three races - the 200m, 1000m, and 4000m, all in freestyle. In the first race, he won the semifinals and finished second in the finals. In the second race, he started with a victory in the preliminary round and took third place in the final race. In the last competition, Halmay again won the semifinals and finished second in the finals. After these Games, Halmay received two silver medals and one bronze medal.

Olympic Games in St. Louis, 1904

In the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis, Halmay competed only in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races. He won both races, including the semifinals and finals, and received two gold medals.

Unofficial Olympic Games in Athens, 1906

Two years later, Halmay participated in the unofficial Olympic Games in Athens. He became a champion with his teammates in the 4x250m relay and finished second in the 100m freestyle race. However, these two medals are not recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

Another two years later, Halmay took part in the swimming competitions at the 1908 Olympic Games in London. In the 100m freestyle race, he won in the quarterfinals and semifinals but finished second in the finals, earning a silver medal. In the 4x200m relay, his team advanced directly to the finals due to the absence of opponents in the previous stages, and they finished second in the final race.
