Biography of Aaron Kamin

Aaron Kamin is an American actor, guitarist, and singer-songwriter, born on August 10, 1977, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, he never completed high school. In 1995, Aaron's girlfriend introduced him to her brother, Alex Band, which eventually led to the discovery of their musical talents.

Formation of "Generation Gap"

During their friendship, 18-year-old Aaron showcased his compositional talent as a guitarist, while 15-year-old Alex demonstrated his remarkable vocal abilities. However, Aaron was faced with a difficult choice when Alex's sister demanded that he either stop playing music with Alex or she would leave him. Unable to give up the electric energy they exuded through their collaboration, Aaron chose to continue making music with Alex.

Breakthrough with RCA

In 1997, the duo's persistence caught the attention of the RCA music label. They bombarded the president of RCA and his relatives for six months by sending demo recordings and playing their songs relentlessly. Impressed by their determination, RCA offered them an encouraging contract, which later became a reality.

"Camino Palmero" and "Coyote Ugly"

Their first band, "Generation Gap," was short-lived as the older members did not mesh well with the younger musicians. However, the duo received an invitation to perform their song "Wherever You Will Go" live in the blockbuster film "Coyote Ugly" in 2000. This opportunity led to them abandoning their education. Shortly after the September 11th events, the song was released as a single, which climbed to the top five on American charts by early 2002.

On July 10, 2001, their debut album "Camino Palmero" was released. The album showcased technical excellence and emotional resonance, capturing the hearts of a young generation. The band gained a devoted fanbase, their songs received heavy radio rotation, and they embarked on a world tour. In 2002, they released a music video for their third single, "Could It Be Any Harder," and continued touring in the United States and the United Kingdom.

In August 2002, at the Teen Choice Awards, their track "Adrienne" was named the best rock song of the year by teenagers. In November 2002, at the MTV European Music Awards, the band won the People's Choice Award for "Best New Band." However, Aaron Kamin's career with The Calling faced uncertainty when Alex Band decided to pursue a solo career.

Currently, Aaron Kamin is producing and writing songs for several Los Angeles-based bands, including Hodges Taylor. He produced and wrote music for the film "Ghosts of Genius" in 2003 and the film "Boobies" in 2005.
