Biography of Abdulhak Abdulloev
Abdulhak Abdulloev was a renowned Uzbek portrait painter. He was born in 1918 in the city of Turkistan. His inclination towards drawing was evident from a young age. In 1928, he enrolled in a labor school in Tashkent, where he was introduced to the basics of drawing alongside other subjects. It was during his time at this school that Abdulloev began to seriously consider a career as a painter.
A fortunate turn of events helped him realize this dream. In 1931, the school was relocated to Samarkand, where an art school was also located. Abdulloev painted a copy of a portrait of an actor, and when it was reviewed by the art school, he was admitted as a student without taking any entrance exams. Throughout his education from 1931 to 1936, Abdulloev was mentored by renowned artists such as L. L. Bure, Z. M. Kovalevskaya, and P. P. Benkov.
Later, he studied at the Moscow Art Institute from 1938 to 1941, under the guidance of V. P. Efanov and A. A. Osmyorkin. Exhibitions of Abdulloev's works were held in Tashkent in the years 1940, 1946, and 1953. He also wrote a number of articles on art. He taught at the Art School from 1950 to 1957 and at the Nizami Pedagogical Institute from 1955 to 1957, both in Tashkent. Abdulloev's paintings are preserved in museums in Uzbekistan, Russia, Italy, India, and other countries around the world.
He passed away on October 29, 2001, and was laid to rest at the Chigatai Memorial Cemetery. Some of his most famous works include portraits of Hero of Socialist Labor N. Niyazov (1949, Museum of the East, Moscow), writer Aybek (1949, Museum of Art of Uzbekistan, Tashkent), "Shakhla's Niece" (1960, Tretyakov Gallery), playwright Yashen (1960, Museum of Art of Uzbekistan), writer I. Rahim (1967, Art Fund of Uzbekistan), and "Alisher Navoi" (1968).
Abdulloev was honored with the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals. He was recognized as a Distinguished Artist of the Uzbek SSR in 1950 and as a People's Artist of the Uzbek SSR in 1968.
