Biography of Abdullah Abdullah
Abdullah Abdullah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, was born in Panjshir and comes from a Tajik-Pashtun family. He studied at Kabul University, where he earned a degree in medicine. After graduating, he worked as an ophthalmologist at a hospital for Afghan refugees in Peshawar, Pakistan. Abdullah is fluent in Arabic, English, and French.
Early Career
In 1992, Abdullah returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan and became a political advisor to Ahmad Shah Massoud, the leader of the United Anti-Taliban Front. He also headed the medical department of the Front. For three years, Abdullah represented the Afghan authorities at the United Nations. In 1999, he became the chief of the foreign affairs department under the central government led by Burhanuddin Rabbani.
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Abdullah is currently the head of the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is one of the three key ministers in the transitional government led by Hamid Karzai. The other two key ministers are the head of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior. All three ministers are loyal followers of the policies advocated by Ahmad Shah Massoud, who was assassinated by the Taliban in September of the previous year.
Upcoming Visit to Moscow
Abdullah Abdullah is scheduled to visit Moscow as part of his role as the head of the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the visit, he will prepare for Hamid Karzai's first official visit to Russia, which is planned for early March. At 41 years old, Abdullah Abdullah is known for his strong oratory skills and ability to achieve compromises, which is why he was appointed as the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the new prime minister.
