Ahmed Vefik Pasha

Ahmed Vefik Pasha was a prominent Ottoman statesman who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Ottoman Empire.

Early Life and Career

Vefik Pasha was born in Constantinople at a young age and joined the Albanian Bodyguard of Sultan Abdul-Aziz. He later became the government commissioner at the Galata Stock Exchange and published a guide to stock exchange matters in Turkish.

Provincial Administration

He entered the field of provincial administration and in 1878 was sent to Cilician province to quell a Kurdish rebellion. His success in this mission earned him the position of Governor-General of Salonica in 1879.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

On June 9, 1880, Vefik Pasha was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. However, his tenure was short-lived, as he was dismissed from office on September 12 of the same year.
