Early Life and Family StrifeAbulgazi Bahadur Khan was born in Khiva, Uzbekistan, as the son of Arab Muhammad Khan, ruler of the Uzbek Khanate. At the tender age of 17, he received his inheritance from his father, sparking a dispute with his brothers that resulted in his exile to the Safavid Empire.
Rise to Power and Military Campaigns
In 1643, after a protracted struggle against his brothers, Abulgazi Bahadur Khan seized the throne of Khiva, embarking on a reign marked by military prowess. He fought against the Turkmen, Kalmyks, and Bukhara Khanate, securing his territory from external threats. In 1663, he abdicated the throne in favor of his son, Muhammad Anusha Khan.
Literary Legacy: "Genealogies of the Turkmens and Turks"
Abulgazi Bahadur Khan's enduring legacy lies in his two historical works: "Genealogies of the Turkmens" (completed by 1661) and "Genealogies of the Turks" (published in 1852 and 1871). Translated into several European languages, including Russian, these works provide invaluable insights into the history and culture of Central Asian peoples.
Writing in Uzbek and Legacy
