Biography of Adila Namazova

Adila Avaz kizi Namazova, born on September 9, 1926, in Agdam district of Azerbaijan, is an esteemed Azerbaijani scientist and medical professional. She is a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR and a Meritorious Scientist of Azerbaijan. Namazova is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and a full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. She holds a doctorate in medical sciences and is a professor.

Early Life and Education

Namazova's father, Avaz Novruz oglu Namazov (1904-1953), and mother, Ulkar Veli kizi Namazova (1908-1990), raised her in Agdam. After completing high school, Namazova enrolled in the Azerbaijan Medical Institute in 1944 and graduated in 1949 as a certified pediatrician. She then worked as the head of the pediatric consultation center in the Agdam district from 1949 to 1953.

Academic Career

During her tenure as an intern at the Central Institute for Advanced Medical Education of the USSR Ministry of Health in Moscow (1954), Namazova prepared her candidate dissertation. She worked as an assistant at the Department of Pediatrics of the Azerbaijan Medical Institute for two years while pursuing her doctoral degree. She successfully defended her candidate dissertation in 1959.

From 1960 to 1965, Namazova worked as a doctoral student of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, focusing on her doctoral dissertation. She obtained her doctorate degree in 1965. Since 1966, Namazova has been the head of the Department of Pediatric Diseases at the Azerbaijan Medical University. Additionally, from 1971 to 1990, she served as the Chair of the Scientific Medical Council of the Ministry of Health of the Azerbaijan SSR.

Contributions to Medical Research

Namazova's scientific research has made significant contributions to the understanding of cardiovascular conditions in children, particularly during the active phase of rheumatism. She has studied the clinical features of congenital septal defects in children and introduced various electrophysiological methods of examination into clinical practice.

Namazova has also conducted research on the prevalence and clinical manifestations of hypertension and hypotension in children and adolescents. Her studies have revealed the role of biogenic amines, adrenal function, lipid metabolism, and the kallikrein-kinin system in these conditions. She has developed classifications for these diseases and explored the long-term outcomes of heart surgeries in children.

Professional Achievements

Namazova is the author of numerous scientific publications, including monographs and textbooks on pediatric diseases, heart surgery, and medical ethics. She has also obtained several patents and authorship certificates. Under her guidance, 42 candidates and 3 doctors of medical sciences have been trained.

Namazova is a corresponding member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1971) and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (1992). She is a full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (1983). Since 1969, she has been the President of the Azerbaijan Pediatric Society, and from 1970 to 1990, she was a member of the Presidium of the Soviet Pediatric Society. Namazova has also held leadership positions in various international pediatric associations.

Recognition and Personal Life

Namazova has been honored with the State Prize of the USSR (1982) and the title of Meritorious Scientist of Azerbaijan (1981). She has received the Order of Glory (1996) and other medals and awards. Apart from her professional pursuits, Namazova enjoys working in her garden, planting trees, and listening to classical music.
