Biography of Adrian Fernham
Adrian Fernham, a British psychologist of South African origin, is a versatile specialist who studies organizational psychology, applied psychology, social psychology, personality psychology, and the secrets of managing processes. He is also an expert in management theory. Currently, Fernham is a professor of psychology at University College London.
Early Life and Education
Adrian Fernham was born in Port Shepstone, South Africa, to a British family. In 1959, his family relocated to Pietermaritzburg, where he received his primary education. In 1970, he was accepted into the University of Natal, where he completed his bachelor's degree in 1972 and graduated with honors the following year. He continued his studies and obtained a master's degree. In 1975, Fernham became a student at the University of London, earning a master's degree in economics in 1976. He also obtained another master's degree from the University of Strathclyde and then pursued a doctoral degree at the University of Oxford. Fernham received his PhD in 1981 and later earned two more doctoral degrees.
Academic Career
In 1979, Fernham became a lecturer at Pembroke College, Oxford, where he taught psychology and shared the secrets of science and psychology with middle and senior-level managers. He also served as the head of postgraduate programs at University College London. In 1981, he became a lecturer and held this position until 1987. On October 1, 1992, Adrian Fernham became a professor of psychology and continues to hold this position. As a professor, he teaches courses in applied, industrial, personality, and social psychology to regular students as well as postgraduates. Under his guidance, more than 20 PhD candidates and 50 master's students successfully defended their dissertations.
International Engagements
Adrian Fernham's educational activities go beyond University College London. From 1995 to 1997, he served as a visiting professor at the University of Hong Kong's Business School. From 1999 to 2001, he held a similar position at Henley Management College. Currently, Fernham is an adjunct professor at the Norwegian Business School in Oslo and is also a member of the faculty at a college in Singapore.
Applied Behavioural Research Associates
In 1985, Fernham founded the management consulting agency "Applied Behavioural Research Associates," where he served as the first director. The agency specialized in assessing and developing corporate models, performance analysis, personnel management, and literature reviews. The company worked with several well-known organizations, including the Foreign Office, Lloyds Bank, Cathay Pacific Airways, Channel 4, Abbey Life, Boots, Hambros Bank, Ritz Hotel, British Rail, Air New Zealand, Marks and Spencer, and Barclays Bank.
Personal Life
During his time at Oxford, Fernham met Allison Green, a psychologist and memory specialist. They married in 1990 and later had a son. Currently, the couple resides in central London.
