Sultanova achieved early success in judo, winning titles at the Youth European and World Championships in 2008. However, an injury compromised her vision, forcing her to retire.
Inspiration and Return
Sultanova drew inspiration from her compatriot, the blind Paralympic champion Ilham Zakiyev. She resumed training and became the World Champion in 2010.

Gold Medal in LondonSultanova represented Azerbaijan at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London as the reigning World Champion. She triumphed in the 57 kg category, defeating Lucia da Silva Teixeira of Brazil in the final to claim her country's first Paralympic gold medal.
