Agnes Thill: French Politician
Early Life and EducationAgnes Thill was born in Paris on June 2, 1964. She pursued a career in education, serving as a teacher in the Oise department and later as a school director in Paris.
Political Activism
Thill joined the Socialist Party in 1981 at the age of 17. However, she left the party after the 1990 Rennes Congress. In late 2016, she joined Emmanuel Macron's La République En Marche! (REM) movement.
Parliamentary Career
In the 2017 National Assembly elections, Thill ran as a LREM candidate in the Oise's 2nd constituency. She emerged victorious in the second round, receiving 54.7% of the votes.
As a member of the National Assembly, Thill serves on the Education and Culture Committee. She has been vocal in her support for the reform of French labor laws.
Controversies
In 2019, Thill sparked controversy by opposing state-funded assisted reproductive technology (ART) for lesbians and single women. This stance conflicted with Macron's presidential campaign platform and drew criticism from within her LREM party.
In June 2020, Thill was expelled from the LREM parliamentary group for her comments on ART. She subsequently joined the UDI et Indépendants faction approximately a year later.
Current Position
As of June 21, 2017, Agnes Thill holds the position of Deputy of the National Assembly of France for the Oise's 2nd constituency.
