Biography of Agustin Gomez Pagola

Agustin Gomez Pagola was a football player, central and left defender, and coach. He was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports on January 17, 1952. Born in the Basque country, he became a captain of the youth team Basconia and came to the USSR as a result of the Spanish Civil War.

Upon arriving in Moscow, Agustin played for the youth teams of the House of Spanish Youth. He later joined the team of the "Red Rose" factory (1940-1941) and "Krylya Sovetov" Moscow (1944-1946). From 1947 to 1954, he played for FC "Torpedo" Moscow, participating in 185 matches. He also played for the Donetsk "Shakhtar" during their tour in Bulgaria and Romania in 1951.

In 1952, Agustin Gomez Pagola was selected for the Soviet Union Olympic team. He was also a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Spain and participated in underground activities upon his return to his homeland.

Agustin Gomez Pagola passed away in Moscow due to an incurable illness and was buried in the 4th section of the Donskoye Cemetery.
