Biography of Ahmad Suradji
Ahmad Suradji, also known by the aliases Nasib Kelewang and Datuk, was an Indonesian serial killer. He was responsible for the deaths of 42 girls and women. Suradji committed these horrific crimes over a span of 11 years.
The Charming Healer
Suradji was known in his community as a healer with supernatural abilities. His victims, aged between 11 and 30 years old, sought his help for various issues. Tragically, they did not suspect the danger they were putting themselves in by approaching Suradji.
A Gruesome Method
Suradji's method of killing was chilling. He would bury his victims up to their waists in a sugar cane field near his house, before strangling them with a cable. Disturbingly, the women willingly allowed Suradji to bury them, believing it to be part of a magical ritual.
A Twisted Motive
During the investigation, Suradji confessed that he needed these killings to enhance his magical powers. He claimed that his deceased father had appeared to him in a dream, instructing him to kill 70 women and drink their saliva in order to become a true healer. Suradji blindly followed this disturbing instruction.
The Arrest and Trial
Suradji's reign of terror came to an end in May 1997 when police discovered a woman's body near his home in North Sumatra province. Subsequently, 41 more bodies were found. Suradji's three wives, who were also sisters, were implicated in the murders and the disposal of the bodies.
The trial began on December 11, 1997, and lasted several months. In April 1998, Suradji was found guilty and sentenced to death by firing squad. The sentence was carried out on July 10, 2008.
