Ahmad Vahidi: Iranian Military Commander and Terrorist
Ahmad Vahidi, an Iranian general and former commander of the elite Quds Force, has been linked to multiple terrorist attacks against Israelis and Americans.
Bloody Legacy: The AMIA Bombing
Vahidi's most infamous act was the 1994 bombing of the Jewish Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The attack, which killed 85 people and injured hundreds more, became the deadliest anti-Semitic incident since the Holocaust. Investigations by Argentine intelligence and the Israeli Mossad determined that Iran was behind the operation, and that Vahidi had personally planned it.
International Indictment and Evasion
In 2007, Interpol issued an international arrest warrant for Vahidi in connection with the AMIA bombing. However, Iran has refused to extradite him, citing diplomatic immunity.
Other Notable Attacks
Vahidi has also been implicated in other terrorist attacks, including:
The 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia
The 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik HaririThe 2009 terrorist plot to bomb New York City
Continued Impunity
Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, Vahidi has remained at large. He currently serves as Iran's Minister of Defense and has close ties to the country's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
