Early Life and Club Career
Mohamed Fathy, an Egyptian international footballer, was born in Ismailia, Egypt, on November 10, 1984. Fathy's journey in football began with his hometown club, Ismaily, where he played for six seasons, starting in the 2001/02 season. During his time at Ismaily, the team secured the Egyptian Premier League title in his debut season and reached the CAF Champions League final in 2003.
Sheffield United and Premier League Debut
In January 2007, Fathy made the move to the English Premier League, joining Sheffield United for a transfer fee of £700,000. He made his debut on February 10, 2007, in a match against Tottenham Hotspur. Despite Fathy's appearances in the subsequent matches against Liverpool and Everton, Sheffield United ended the 2006/07 season in 18th place and was relegated to the Championship.
Return to Egypt and Success with Al-Ahly
In September 2007, Al-Ahly repurchased Fathy's transfer rights for €700,000. He was loaned out to Al-Qadsia SC in Kuwait to maintain match fitness before returning to Al-Ahly in January 2008. Fathy became a regular starter for Al-Ahly, helping the team win multiple Egyptian Premier League titles, the CAF Champions League, and the CAF Super Cup.
Injury Setback and Comeback
In April 2008, Fathy suffered a severe Achilles tendon injury that sidelined him until November 2008.
International Career
Fathy made his international debut for Egypt in 2002. He represented the U-20 team at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship, where Egypt reached the round of 16. Fathy was also a key player in Egypt's successful campaigns at the 2006 and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, winning both tournaments.
