Causes and Consequences
According to Dr. Krishan Chugh, Head of Pediatrics at Fortis Hospital, Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is a vascular malformation where veins fail to develop properly. It primarily affects children. Akshaj is prone to intestinal bleeding due to abnormal blood flow in his gut. Additionally, his enlarged veins increase the risk of bleeding elsewhere in his body.
Prognosis and Treatment
Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is a progressive disorder that can worsen over time. It is not typically inherited but may occur alongside other birth defects, such as limb gigantism or polydactyly (extra fingers or toes). Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and preventing complications.
