Biography of Al Stewart

Singer, guitarist, and composer Al Stewart began his serious study and practice of guitar playing alongside Robert Fripp. Today, Robert Fripp is considered one of the best guitarists in the world, but few people know that Al Stewart grew into a master of a similar level. Leaving school in 1959, Al Stewart became the lead guitarist in the group Tony Blackburn And The Sabres, and then moved to London, where he quickly gained a reputation as one of the strongest folk guitarists. In 1967, he signed a contract with CBS, on which his debut album "Bedsitter Image" was released, reminiscent of the works of Bob Dylan from the same period. Released in 1970, the album "Zero She Flies" was made in the same style, and gradually Al Stewart became one of the leading figures in the British folk-rock scene. According to experts, Stewart's most successful work is the 1974 album "Past, Present And Future". This conceptual work is based on the novel "The Centuries Of Nostradamus" by Erika Chitham and tells the story of the most important historical events of the 20th century predicted by Nostradamus. Two compositions from this album, "Roads To Moscow" and "Nostradamus", enjoyed particular success. Among Al Stewart's more recent works, the 1978 album "Time Passages" dedicated to the French Revolution and modern America stands out - in this album, Al Stewart successfully combined folk-rock with jazz, achieving a fusion comparable only to Miles Davis and John McLaughlin. In the 1980s and 1990s, Al Stewart preferred to work in the United States, where his creativity found greater understanding than in his homeland.
