Ala ad-Din Husayn: Founder of the Ghurid Dynasty

Early Life and Rise to Power

Ala ad-Din Husayn was the eldest son of Hussein, the ruler of Ghur, a region in eastern Persia. He emerged as a skilled military commander and established the Ghurid dynasty and state in 1149.

Conquest of Ghazni

Husayn gathered a significant army and defeated the Ghaznavid sultan, Bahram-shah, capturing the city of Ghazni. He installed his brother, Suri, as its governor. Bahram-shah subsequently recaptured Ghazni and executed Suri, prompting Husayn to seek revenge.

Vengeance and Devastation

Husayn engaged in a series of battles against Bahram-shah, ultimately defeating him and recapturing Ghazni. In the aftermath, he subjected the city to plundering and destruction, earning him the epithet "Jahan سوز" (World Burner). As he retreated, Husayn continued to inflict devastation and cruelty.

Clash with the Seljuks

Husayn's ambitions extended beyond Ghazni. He rebelled against the Seljukid sultan, Sanjar. However, Sanjar defeated Husayn and took him captive.

Release and Legacy

Despite his initial defeat, Husayn's wit and cheerfulness won the favor of Sanjar, who reinstated him as ruler of Ghur. Ala ad-Din Husayn passed away in 1161, leaving a significant legacy as the founder of the powerful Ghurid dynasty.
