Biography of Alan Eustace

Alan Eustace is the Senior Vice President of Google for Research and Development. He is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's research and product development activities. Eustace joined Google in the summer of 2002 after spending 15 years at the Western Research Laboratory of Digital/Compaq/HP.

Before joining Google, Eustace worked on various projects related to chip design and architecture at the Western Research Laboratory. He was involved in the development of several groundbreaking technologies, including the MicroTitan floating-point computation block and BIPS, the fastest microprocessor of its time.

Eustace also collaborated with Amitabh Srivastava on ATOM, a binary code instrumentation system that forms the foundation for a wide range of tools for program analysis and computer architecture. These tools had a significant impact on the design of EV5, EV6, and EV7 chips.

In 1999, Eustace was appointed the Director of the Western Research Laboratory, where he led projects in the areas of handheld computers, multiprocessor chips, power and energy management, internet performance, and frequency and voltage scaling.

In addition to his role in managing Google's development efforts, Eustace actively participates in various company-sponsored community initiatives. He is involved with groups such as The Second Harvest Food Bank, the Anita Borg Scholarship Fund, and the Internet Society.

Eustace is also an accomplished author and inventor. He has authored nine publications and holds ten registered patents. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Central Florida.
