Birth and Education

Gianni Infantino was born on March 10, 1936, in Switzerland. He graduated from the University of Lausanne with a law degree in 1956.

Early Career

Infantino began his career as a member of the Swiss Sports Journalists Association. From 1948 to 1971, he played for an amateur Swiss football club.

Professional Career

In 1962, Infantino joined a Swiss travel agency. Two years later, he became the General Secretary of the Swiss Ice Hockey Association. In 1972, he participated in the preparations for the Munich Olympics as a representative of the Longines company.

FIFA Leadership

Infantino joined FIFA as its Technical Director in 1975. In 1981, he was appointed General Secretary by then-FIFA President João Havelange. In 1998, he was elected FIFA President after defeating UEFA President Lennart Johansson.

International Involvement

In 1999, Infantino became a member of the International Olympic Committee.

Controversies

In 2001, Infantino's name was involved in a scandal surrounding the bankruptcy of FIFA's partner company, ISL/ISMM.

Infantino has served as the President of FIFA since 1998, making him the eighth and current president of the organization. He is responsible for overseeing all aspects of FIFA, including the development of football globally, the organization of major competitions, and the governance of the sport.
