Early Life and Career
David Coulthard is a Scottish racing driver who rose to prominence in Formula One. Before Formula One, Coulthard had a successful career in karting, winning multiple titles. He then competed in Formula Ford and Formula Opel before becoming the British Formula Three Vice-Champion.
Formula One Debut
In 1990, Coulthard joined McLaren as a test driver. From 1993 to 1996, he held the same position with Benetton. He made his Formula One debut in 1994 with Williams-Renault.
Sportscar Success
In 1998, Coulthard competed in the FIA GT Championship, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GT1 class. The following year, he won the American Le Mans Series with Audi.
Return to Formula One
In 2001, Coulthard returned to Formula One as a test driver for Toyota. In 2002, he became their main driver but failed to score any points. He suffered a crash during practice for the Japanese Grand Prix that year.
Later Years
After Formula One, Coulthard focused on sports car racing. He won the American Le Mans Series again and became a three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. His most recent victory came in 2013 with Tom Kristensen and Loïc Duval.
