Lombard Nobleman

In 889, Alberic arrived in Italy from the West Frankish Kingdom with Guido of Spoleto. He participated in Guido's battle against Berengar I of Friuli at the Trebbia River.

Service to Berengar I

After Guido's death, Alberic served Berengar I. In 898, he assassinated Guido IV of Spoleto and seized the Duchy of Spoleto.

Acquisition of Camerino

With Berengar's support, Alberic acquired the Margraviate of Camerino in the early 10th century.

Dominance Over Rome

Alberic allied with enemies of Pope Formosus and married Marozia. He became the ruling Patrician of Rome, exercising significant authority.

Conflict and Assassination

In 916, Alberic joined with Pope John X to repel Saracen raids. However, he was later expelled from Rome by the same pope and assassinated by the Romans in 925 in Orte.

Legacy

Alberic's son with Marozia, Alberic II, became the Patrician and Senator of Rome from 932.
