Biography of Albert Gubay
Albert Gubay, an English entrepreneur and billionaire, was born in 1928. He showed a penchant for entrepreneurship at a young age, starting his first business selling sweets in the post-war period. However, in the 1950s, the market conditions changed, and Albert had to pivot his business by working through retail kiosks.
On May 11, 1959, Albert Gubay founded the company Value Foods and opened his first store in his hometown of Rhyl just a month later. Throughout its existence, Albert's company operated by its own rules, often bending the existing legislation. For example, the store stayed open longer than usual on Fridays, and the prices of goods were significantly lower than those in neighboring shops. This led to some suppliers refusing to provide products to Albert's enterprise.
In 1964, Albert traveled to the United States and learned about new retail trading methods. Additionally, the business model of the West German store Aldi played a significant role in the fate of Albert's company. As a result, not only did Albert's business stabilize, but it also started to develop rapidly.
Albert began opening discount-based stores, with the first ones opening in 1965 under the name "Kwik Save Discount." By the early 1970s, there were already 24 stores of this kind. Albert Gubay further expanded his business by opening stores in New Zealand, Ireland, and the United States. In the US, for instance, Albert established his own business in the 1980s. Despite going bankrupt after five years, his experience in selling products in various cities across the US proved invaluable.
Like many billionaires, Albert Gubay actively participates in charitable activities. Throughout his life, Albert has placed special emphasis on supporting educational institutions, such as the University of the Isle of Man. Presently, Albert Gubay resides in England with his family, including his wife and two children. His personal fortune is estimated to be around $1.1 billion, according to Forbes, which ranks him among the wealthiest and most influential individuals on the planet.
