Alberto Acosta: Uruguayan Striker with Brazilian Flair
Early Career in UruguayAlberto Acosta began his professional football career in the early 1990s with Defensor Sporting in Montevideo, Uruguay. He honed his skills there before moving on to Cerrito and Peñarol, two other prominent Uruguayan clubs.
Breakthrough in Brazil
In the 2007 Brazilian Série A, Acosta made a significant impact for struggling Náutico of Recife. He emerged as the league's second-leading scorer with 19 goals, propelling the club to a respectable finish.
Return to Brazil with Corinthians
The following year, Acosta joined Corinthians, a renowned Brazilian powerhouse that had recently been relegated to the Série B. He contributed to the club's swift return to the top flight, scoring seven goals in 24 appearances.
Later Career
After his stint with Corinthians, Acosta briefly returned to Náutico before resuming his journey in Uruguay. However, a chance to re-join Defensor Sporting never materialized. In 2010, he landed at Brazilian club Brasiliense.
International Career
At the international level, Acosta represented Uruguay on several occasions between 1995 and 2006. He recorded nine goals in 23 appearances for his country.
