Biography of Lucho Gonzalez
Argentine footballer and midfielder Lucho Gonzalez is currently playing for the club "Athletico Paranaense" as well as representing the Argentine national team.
Early Career
At the age of 14, Lucho began his football career with the club "Huracan". In 2002, he moved to "River Plate" and in 2004, his club emerged as the champions of Argentina.
Move to Porto
Lucho's impressive performances for "River Plate" caught the attention of scouts from FC Porto, and in 2005, he moved to Portugal. Porto paid 3.6 million euros for half of the player's rights. In November 2006, he signed an improved contract until 2011, and in August 2007, Porto paid 6.65 million euros to acquire all the rights to the player. Lucho became the captain of the team and was known in the club as "El Commandante" for his excellent leadership skills and outstanding teamwork.
Move to Marseille
In June 2009, Porto announced the sale of Lucho Gonzalez to Olympic Marseille for a fee of 18 million euros, with the possibility of increasing to 24 million, depending on the player's performance. However, in June 2011, Lucho expressed his desire to leave Marseille, and shortly after, there were reports that Spanish club Malaga was interested in signing him for a transfer fee of 12 million euros.
Return to Porto
During the winter transfer window of 2012, Lucho returned to his native Porto, where he had the opportunity to play in the Europa League, as he had only played in the Champions League for Marseille.
International Success
With the Argentine national team, Lucho won a gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games. In the 2006 FIFA World Cup, he helped the team reach the quarter-finals, where they were defeated by Germany on penalties. In the summer of 2007, Lucho won silver with the national team at the Copa America.
