Alberto Quintero: A Panamanian Midfielder's Journey

Early Career and Move to Spain

Born in Panama, Alberto Quintero began his football career with Chorrillo FC. After two seasons in the Panamanian league, his exceptional performance as a midfielder earned him a move to Spain with Carlos García Cantarero. He joined Torrevieja-Illescas before making his debut in Spain's Segunda División with Cartagena in 2009.

Challenges and Return to Panama

Quintero's time in Spain was marked by both challenges and adversity. In a match against Real Betis, he faced racial abuse from fans. He moved to Ontinyent FC but struggled to adapt fully and returned to Chorrillo FC the following season. He was then sent on loan to Independiente Medellín in Colombia, where he made his Copa Mustang debut in 2012.

Mexican Adventure

Quintero later joined Lobos BUAP in Mexico's Liga Ascenso. Despite making his debut in 2013, he failed to establish himself as a regular and moved to Mérida FC and Mineros de Zacatecas. He eventually returned to Lobos BUAP in early 2015 and scored his first goal in Mexico against Celaya FC.

International Career

In 2007, Quintero represented Panama at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. He made his senior international debut for Panama in 2007 against Guatemala and scored his first goal against Cuba in 2011.

Quintero played a key role in Panama's success at the 2011 and 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cups, reaching the final in 2013. He also made his mark in the 2015 Gold Cup, scoring a goal against Haiti and leading the team to a third-place finish.

Copa América and Current Club

In 2016, Quintero was selected for Panama's Copa América squad in the United States. He played in matches against Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina. Currently, he represents Universitario in Panama and remains a key player for the Panamanian national team.
