Albrecht II, Count of Holland
Albrecht II was the co-ruler of his father, Albrecht I, in the counties of Holland, Hainaut, and Zeeland. He belonged to the Wittelsbach dynasty. From 1389 to 1397, he also ruled the Bavarian portion of the Duchy of Bavaria-Straubing.
Early Life and Family
Albrecht II's mother was Margaret of Brieg, a great-granddaughter of King Wenceslaus II of Bohemia and Poland. Albrecht spent most of his time in Straubing, where he organized tournaments and ordered the construction of roads and a church.
Reign in Straubing
Albrecht II chose to stay out of the internal conflicts among his cousins, the three sons of his uncle Stephen II. However, he supported them in their war against the Swabian city confederation and the Archbishop of Salzburg.
Visits to the Netherlands and Military Campaigns
Albrecht visited the Netherlands several times and fought against the Frisians in 1396 alongside his father and older brother, William II.
