Biography of Stepan Mnatsakanyan
Stepan Levonovich Mnatsakanyan (Armenian: Ստեփան Լևոնի Մնացականյան) was born on July 1, 1957, in Yerevan. He is an Armenian state official and economist.
Education and Academic Career
From 1974 to 1979, Mnatsakanyan studied at the Faculty of Industrial Economics at the Yerevan Institute of National Economy. He received his candidacy in economic sciences and has authored over 30 scientific works. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Bronze Medal of the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy of the USSR in 1987 and the "Anania Shirakatsi" Medal in 2003. He also received the Commemorative Medal and a medal on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of labor unions of state institutions in Armenia.
Mnatsakanyan worked as a junior and then senior researcher at the Yerevan Institute of National Economy from 1979 to 1990. From 1990 to 1996, he served as an associate professor at the same institute.
Government and Administrative Roles
In 1995 and 1996, Mnatsakanyan held the position of Deputy Executive Director of the Association of Banks of Armenia and was a member of the Economic Council of the Tax Inspection of the Republic of Armenia. From 1996 to 1998, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Control Chamber of the National Council of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the Chief Specialist of the President's Administration of Armenia. He also served as a member of the competition commission of the School of Public Administration and the interbank arbitration.
From 1998 to 2000, Mnatsakanyan served as the Minister of Statistics, State Registration, and Analysis of the Republic of Armenia. Since May 2000, he has been the Chairman of the State Council on Statistics of Armenia and the President of the National Statistical Service of Armenia. Mnatsakanyan has participated in and presented reports at international conferences on statistical issues.
